Renewed Or Cancelled?
Extrapolations is the latest drama on AppleTV, tackling the topic of climate change through 8 episodes of anthological drama. If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is Extrapolations Season 1 about?
Extrapolations solely focuses on the topic of climate change, which essentially plays out as a finger-pointing exercise to show that we, the general public, need to do more to stop climate change from occurring.
The show seems like a cautionary tale to begin with, but soon jumps constantly through time, shifting protagonists, perspectives and ideas in a confusing jumble of distorted narrative shifts, all whilst adopting an almost hopeless narrative, like the screenwriters weren’t even sure themselves what they wanted to do with this.

Has Extrapolations been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, AppleTV+ has not renewed Extrapolations for season 2. Given Apple’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows,this one could buck the trend and remain a one-and-done deal.
Generally Apple and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Shantaram) Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.
So far, Extrapolations has had a pretty bad reaction from critics and audiences, with many lamenting the tone and pacing of this drama.
Given the way the show is set up, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. The ending pretty much wraps everything up and there’s not much scope to expand on this.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known as season 2 at this point as Apple have not made a definitive decision over the show’s future just yet. However, as detailed above, it’s unlikely to be renewed.
If this does get the greenlight, expect the story to jump forward in time once more and continue the anthological nature of the first, with a look at whether the Earth has recovered or not.

LOVED this show. It feels like a cross between my favorite genre (realistic sci-fi) and Black Mirror. Riveting perfection, IMO.
If you watch the entire series the relations of the various characters build on each other, similar to the format in “Tales from the Loop” on Prime Video. I enjoyed it and might have liked it to begin in late 2027 and break down basic climate struggles in 5 year increments, with 13 to 16 episodes per season to avoid some of the confusing time leaps. I hope it is given another opportunity to fix some of these issues.
