Outer Range – Season 2 Episode 6 Recap & Review

Do-Si-Do

Episode 6 of Outer Range season 2 starts with Ceci hearing Autumn in her room, muttering to herself. Heading inside, she finds that she’s writing up all over the walls. She’s cracked her mind open and believes that she shares everything deeply with Royal, calling him grandfather and… eventually passing out on the floor.

While she rests up, Ceci watches over her at the end of the bed. A horse neighing outside awakens Ceci though, and she heads outside where she finds Royal on the porch. The pair sit together and discuss visions, but he refuses to elaborate what he saw with the distorted future. However, they do ring Rhett and decide to let him know the truth about Autumn.

When Autumn does awaken, she points out that she’s an open book… and she’s going to go for a walk. The scars she had before appear to be gone, and as she takes off, Rhett shows up at the ranch. Royal admits that the hole is back and wants to show it to him.

Out in the wilderness, Royal reveals the truth about Amy and Autumn’s connection. He wants to try and find Amy and Rebecca before it’s too late, keeping them away from the ranch. And Rhett’s role? Well, he’s told to keep an eye on Autumn while this is happening.

While Billy wakes up and slowly starts to get his voice back, singing in bed, we cut across to Amy and Rebecca. Turns out the former had a bad dream but it seems to have passed now. Brief flashes do show this, including a menacing scream but whether this is all connected to Autumn taking the mineral or not, is up for debate.

Joy opens up with Martha back home, bringing up the past and what happened over the past 4 years. Given how Shelton Cape realty – before they turned into the realtor company – hunted her down, she’s feeling fragile and needs some time to process everything.

At the same time, Luke plays his hand and tries to convince his father to let him in on the gig with the West Pasture. Wayne refuses, telling him not to smother, before heading in to see Billy. Billy and Luke fight over Autumn, and the former is shocked when he learns that she’s been given the mineral.

Autumn though, is struggling to compose herself given she’s been seeing the kid and teen versions of Amy while she’s walking along the road. While she mutters to herself, she wanders into the bank and finds Maria. She prophesizes that Rhett is going to leave her and tells her to “leave before she’s left” and not to act like a fool.

The Pastor shows up to see Royal and Ceci while this is going on. He realizes that he’s not been doing enough for their family. He’s spoken to Ty Riggins, one of the guys from the church, who has in turn spoken to the judge… and they’ve paid the bail. They’re going to work out exactly how to repay this debt with the Abbotts but one thing’s for sure – the ranch isn’t going anywhere. It’s a crazy turn of events, and there are still issues to clear up of course, but it’s at least a turning point.

Speaking of starts, Nia shows up to see Rhett and wants some answers. She knows about the West Pasture and tries to get him to play ball. He doesn’t though, and it all ends badly. Speaking of ending badly, a furious Wayne shows to see the Pastor and after this, unhappy with how things have played out. Eventually he shows at the bar, determined to drown his sorrows.

Meanwhile, Ceci and Royal show up to see Lewis. They knock him down and torture him for answers, demanding to know where Rebecca is. With a gun to his head, Lewis reveals that Rebecca has head off to somewhere called Fourwings, which happens to be a women’s shelter.

When Joy heads over to the Abbott ranch, something happens to make her lose track of time. She passes out on the porch after experiencing some sort of time delay. Apparently she’s been out for about half hour or so when she radios through to HQ. So as a result, she decides to leave.

At the same time, Luke shows up to meet Autumn at the parlour in town. This is the same place she had an ice-cream with her pa. She brings up how she’s connected to Amy, and after holding hands, encourages Luke to go and find Amy. She sees him as her protector.

In the past, Perry speaks to Wayne and Ceci when they show up at the ranch, taunting them both. Young Royal is impressed and decides they should drink that night. Unfortunately, things go awry the next time Perry sees Wayne. As the older Wayne consumes the mineral and realizes how the past and present are connected, in this current timeline we see Perry beaten down by a young Wayne and his subordinates. Now, Wayne actually realizes what’s happening through connecting to his younger self, and comments on how Perry appears to be travelling through time.

A Young Royal shows to see Perry and saves him before it’s too late. Royal admits afterwards that his ears have been ringing all this time and he believes the hole is back. Perry, believing that this is the time, heads out to the hole and realizes that his wife doesn’t want to be found. He’s adamant about going back but isn’t sure when to take the plunge.

It’s been coming for a while, but back at the Tillerson ranch, things take a turn for the worst. Billy and Luke fight, with Luke landing a nasty blow to the side of Billy’s head. Billy collapses down, eventually bleeding out right there. I guess there will be no more musical montages in this show. Bummer.

As the episode reaches its crescendo, Maria comes bursting back into the Abbott house and demands to know where Autumn is. She’s gone, of course, but Maria is livid that she suggested that her and Rhett break up. As we soon find out, Autumn is actually outside, still at the parlour, and concocting some sort of diabolical plan. Eventually, she’s picked up by Luke, who’s rattled after killing Billy.

While they head south, Wayne stumbles out from the bar and senses something is up with Billy.

The Episode Review

Everything is gearing up to a dramatic finale for Outer Range, with all roads leading to a precarious knife-edge for which there is no returning. It’s clear that things have been bubbling up for a while now, albeit incredibly slowly, and that poses a big problem for the Abbotts.

Quite how Wayne is going to react to Billy’s death is anyone’s guess but we knew that something was going to happen here, given what we’ve seen transpire throughout the season.

One thing’s for sure though, this conflict is far from over and we’ll have to wait and see how this one pans out when everything is all said and done.
