Aquaman 3

Aquaman 2 aka Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is DC’s latest superhero movie helmed by James Wan, the horror king. All familiar faces including Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II along with Randall Park return. It unveils an exciting journey of Arthur and Orm as they strike an unlikely partnership to take down Black Manta.

Well, if you have seen it, like every other viewer, you may be looking for its sequel. But will there be an Aquaman 3? Or is there little chance of a follow-up film? Here’s what we know at the time of writing.

Please note: this article contains spoilers about the film’s ending!

What is Aquaman 2 about?

In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Arthur, the King of Atlantis has a tough time running his kingdom and taking care of his growing family while also dealing with his nemesis, Black Manta aka David Kane.

When Kane finds the Black Trident of the evil king, Kordax, he not only threatens Atlantis but all of Earth. Aquaman is forced to break out his half-brother, Orm who knows Kane’s location. Together the brothers set out on a journey to stop Kane before he awakens Kordax.

Will there be an Aquaman 3?

At the time of writing, Aquaman 3 has not been announced

Most superhero movies have a post-credit scene that sets up the sequel. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case as we will not be getting Aquaman 3. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the last of the WB/Snyder/Wan DC phase as the DCU will be revamped by James Gunn in 2025. He will be bringing in a new cast and looking at other storylines from the DC comics. However, Jason Momoa is open to being recast in Gunn’s DCverse as Lobo.

What could happen in Aquaman 3?

So far not much is known since it is most likely not happening.

But just because DCU is being revamped, this does not mean the end for Aquaman though it does seem that Jason Momoa will be hanging up his golden tights. However, there are several DC comics charting the missions and adventures of Arthur, the King of Atlantis and Aquaman that become the source material for new Aquaman movies.

And this is not the first or last Aquaman adaptation as along with Momoa, we have had versions with the likes of Alan Ritchson (of Reacher fame), Chris Diamantopoulos, Matt Lanter, Liam McIntyre and even Cary Elwes. Like Batman and Superman, for all we know Aquaman too would be getting a storyline in Gunn’s DCverse. One can only pray and wait.

Keep an eye out for this section as we will update readers if there is more news.
