Big choruses and resonating lyrics summon impact in this album from Makari. They describe sorrow on a large scale in Wave Machine, never pushing back or falling into a state of mediocrity. The act serves up their unnerving tales with a blast of energy, signalling their demons to slaughter and letting their music flow smoothly.

The inner turmoil is bubbling, there’s no doubting that, and the outfit showcases this through their emphatic sound, intricately and technically turning up the volume while intentionally looking to the sky for peace and validation. Hope comes in for a split second, and then it disappears, putting the band under mental strain, though they’re musically able and have the strength to break the fear.

‘Eternity Leave’ is an emotive track, one bound in storytelling and a steady wave of distress. The band conveys through their writings that the world is crashing and pushing beyond its limitations. That guitar moment arrests.

‘Closer’ begins with subtlety. The guitar riff is fundamental. The themes again tackle mental disorders. The act isn’t happy about the world and the way it’s run, as the lyrics point to their rage.

‘Tidal Wave’ opens heavily as that drumbeat powers on and the chorus majestically chimes in. The band is at their frantic but empowering best. Again, the band is dissatisfied with the world we inhabit.

Makari goes beyond the done-to-death formula with this album. Their music is fresh and daring.
