Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale – K-drama Episode 3 Recap & Review

Cupid’s Aim

Episode 3 of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale begins with Jae-rim running off on seeing the fiancee. It is then revealed that the fiancee, Dan-a is in a strategic engagement with Cha-min for their companies and they don’t actually love each other. However, she expects him to do his duty as a fiance so that her image is not ruined.

At home, Jae-rim is hurt that Cha-min lied about being single and not wanting to get married. Hwa-jin, the step-sister says men put on an act to seduce women but Jae-rim cannot stop thinking about Cha-min’s body when he carried her. At the same time, Cha-min cannot sleep and he works out. However, he keeps fantasizing about carrying Jae-rim and gets shy.

Later, Jae-rim’s friend, Seon-jeong reveals that she has done an erotic audiobook gig and wants Jae-rim to listen to it. Jae-rim is supportive as she likes it on YouTube but refuses to read it. Elsewhere, Dan-a seems to bully her father as well and has a hot temper.

Next day at work, Cha-min teases Jae-rim about the peeing incident but she is in no mood to banter as she confronts him about the fiancee. He thinks she wants to seduce him for his money. She declares that she can put up with a psycho boss for money but she would never date a psycho.

Onto work, Jae-rim does a tour of the club. She goes to the ball pit for the kids and sees Cha-min playing. Next is the lounge which is a hot dating site. But whoever tries to flirt with Cha-min gets a cold shoulder from his umbrella. At the reception, she greets a new customer but Cha-min whisks her away to “train” her. Dan-a notices and the staff tell her about Cha-min wanting to teach Jae-rim a lesson for using the club to get married. But she wonders why he is giving Jae-rim special attention.

Meanwhile, Cha-min gives Jae-rim the impossible task of hand-washing ivory lace till they’re white. Once he leaves, Dan-a sneaks in and tells Jae-rim to go to the Wish Pavilion if she wants to marry. Her predecessor had spent a grand, wishing for a rich husband and was successful.

Cha-min wants to give more petty tasks to Jae-rim and declares that he will be her evil stepmother. The staff tells him to go easy on her and he heads to the roof where she is drying the laundry. He finds her cute as she dances around while listening to music. He takes one of the earpods and they have a moment.

The song suddenly changes to Seon-jeong’s erotic audiobook and both get awkward. Jae-rim tries to take the earpod from him and they fall. With her on top of him, of course. He calls her a pervert and refuses to give her proper tasks. She cutely says she is harmless and he is amused before putting the laundry basket on her head and running off.

He runs into Dan-a who asks if he likes Jae-rim. If he doesn’t like her, he can prove it by helping her find a match and quitting the club. She warns him not to make her angry and he kicks her out.

After work, as a tired Jae-rim stumbles out, Cha-min mocks her as she still prefers marrying rich to working. Her annoyance gives way to fulfilment as a Sang-chul texts her, thanking her for the money she has sent him.

She then recalls Dan-a’s words and tries to get the money for the Wish Pavilion from Hwa-jin. However, the step-sister shares that Jae-rim should study or work to live a good life. She calls her out for wanting to get married for money, just like her dad. Jae-rim says at least their parents loved each other and that’s enough.

Meanwhile, Cha-min checks on his dad who is broke and bedridden. They plan to get Cha-min married to Dan-a since he gets 300 million out of it. The dad tells him to stay on the path by advising him to ignore women and think of them as stones. But he instantly flirts with the nurse when she arrives.

Meanwhile, Jae-rim next tries to ask her second sister, Su-jin who is a doctor. Her colleague, Dr. Koo who is rich likes Su-jin and proposes a plan. He will give Jae-rim the money if she can get him Su-jin’s ring size so he can buy her a diamond ring. It goes smoothly as she steals Su-jin’s ring and even thinks she is doing her step-sister a favour by setting her up with a rich man.

Successful, Jae-rim heads to the Wish Pavillion run by a shaman and wishes for a rich man. Meanwhile, Cha-min listens to the audiobook and can’t stop thinking about Jae-rim.

Back at home, Hwa-jin teases Jae-rim about the money. The stepmother offers Jae-rim an allowance but she politely declines. As for Su-jin, she cannot find a ring of hers and Jae-rim runs off.

She heads early to work to quickly finish the menial tasks but Cha-min announces that she can officially be a manager. The graciousness ends there as he mockingly adds that he is not worried as she can never marry well. She takes a menacing step forward and suddenly he is turned on with the narrator saying it happens to men like Cha-min who ignore women for long.

He runs off claiming she stinks. She wonders if she smells of poverty and even tries to rub the bathroom incense sticks on her hands since it smells like wealth. Alone at the front desk, she prays to her Wish note which contains a description of her ideal type. It flies and she tries to catch it, only to run into a tall, hot customer. They smile and Cha-min watches enviously from the side at the end of Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale Episode 3.

The Episode Review

Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale Episode 3 continues with the goofy execution of the plot and so far, it is still refreshing. It’s the little things that make it engaging such as the moments with the Hwa-jin, seeing Cha-min’s motivations and the sarcastic narration. The main leads’ romance also seems to be blooming in the classic he secretly likes her and she is oblivious trope. Which will get pretty exciting with the hot new customer entering the picture.

Despite being hilarious and having viewers giggling in every other scene, the surprisingly serious moment with the one step-sister we didn’t expect is the highlight of the episode. It gives us valid viewpoints of both sisters and why they think the way they do. For Jae-rim, along with getting out of poverty, she also values love. Meanwhile, Hwa-jin is practical and prefers to rely on no one but herself.
